Dentists plan free clinic for veterans
Plans are underway to create a free dental clinic in Tracy for former military personnel who do not qualify for dental services through Veterans Affairs.
Jaime Aguinaldo, the co-creator of Dentists Organized for Veterans, which would run the clinic, presented his proposal to several local dignitaries, including Rep. Jeff Denham, on Aug. 18. Aguinaldo took the group on a tour of the dental office of Vikram Brar, who is offering his building and equipment at 1940 N. Tracy Blvd. at a discounted rate.
Bayat, a dentist, is the co-creator of DOV, which is a nonprofit charitable dental clinic that is dedicated to all U.S. military veterans who do not qualify for dental service assistance.
Aguinaldo said that if they are able to build a working clinic model to help military veterans in need, there are other organizations around the county looking to do the same.
With five local dentists already willing to volunteer their time one or two days a month, Aguinaldo said the plan was to hire veterans as office staff. He said the next step was to secure $100,000 to open the Tracy clinic doors with an annual operating budget of $250,000. He said their goal is to officially open the clinic during the week of Veterans Day in November.
“For veterans across the county, here is a solution to dental decay,” he said.
