Lodi winemaker earns spot on magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 list

After landing on Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 Tastemakers, (photo  courtesy Wine Enthusiast) local winemaker Adam Mettler is determined not to become complacent in his career.

“It’s really cool. It’s a nice honor to be recognized at any time. I don’t dwell on it too long,” Mettler said. “All those things are great to get when you’re getting them, but I’m always looking on to the next project. I’m just trying to maintain the production at hand.”
Mettler is currently the director of winemaking at Michael David Winery, and is responsible for all wine production and a team of about 25 people operating at more than 10 different sites across the state. He has been overseeing the winemaking at Michael David Winery for 12 years and began his stint there as an assistant wine maker.
He is also responsible for the wine production of his family’s company, Mettler Family Vineyards, and co-owns and operates Freelance Wines, which produces his wine Coup De Grace.
